Mackie is sired by Ren and out of the lovely Verity, who is bred and owned by Janice Cook of Foxbell Smooth Collies. He is a lovely blend of his parents, resulting in a confident dog, with plenty of zest and curiosity for life.

His first occupation was as a show dog and attained his Australian Champion title the week before he turned 1, with numerous Class in Group wins. Since then, Mackie has continued to do well in the show ring, although only appears sporadically these days. 

His litter mates have also been very successful in the show ring, with his sister Faith (Ch. Foxbell Faithfully Yours) winning a Tasmanian All Breeds Best In Show in June 2019; and his brother Rhett (NZ Ch. Foxbell Your Fabulous) winning a New Zealand All Breeds Reserve Best in Show in August 2019.

Mackie and I had our first attempt at competitive dog sports in December, attempting a Rally Novice Trial in the Collie Club of Victoria Inaugural Trial.  Despite incredibly limited training, he managed a creditable qualification pass.  Whether we finish this title remains to be seen, as Mackie’s true love is Herding, and most of our time is focused on training and competing in that arena.

Mackie loved herding from his very first time as a young pup on sheep. He has excelled in the sport and  competes in both sheep and duck trials. He has now achieved the following competitive titles: 

• Herding Started Masters A Course sheep (HSMAs)

• Herding Novice A Course sheep (HNAs)

• Herding Started B Course sheep (HSBs)

• Herding Started A Course ducks (HSAd)

We continue to build on his skills and hope to continue with success in the tougher levels.

 

Mackie has sired two litters successfully; with Ch. Raaybeam November Skye of Raaybeam Smooth Collies in July 2020 and with BISS Ch. Foxbell Fashion Xtra of Foxbell Smooth Collies in August 2020.

FUN FACTS: Mackie is a family name, one of the middle names of my paternal grandfather.  Mac also means ’son’ in Scots Gaelic, quite appropriate for the son of Ren.  The name is also a hat tip to one of my favourite comedians, Lee Mack.  Mackie is from the Foxbell ‘Y’ litter.
